Infertility Counselling and Maternal Mental Health

Infertility

Infertility is on a rise, and it involves a struggle to build a family, to fulfill a dream, and to be happy. Infertility and its medical treatment can be like a roller coaster ride with cycles of raised hopes followed by tragic disappointments, which can be emotionally and psychologically draining.

Infertility for any woman or man can be filled with stress. You may feel like sharing your worries, but may not be sure who to share them with, without being judged. The extensive course of treatment may take a toll on your mental as well as physical health and may not be sure how to find a balance between family and work. This particular problem may start ruling your life, for which you were not prepared, and may you wonder whether you will have the emotional strength to deal with it all.

In this difficult period, counselling can be very supportive in helping you and your partner deal with the stress more effectively.

At IReflect, we work with a lot of couples experiencing infertility, and we understand the depth of pain, sadness, and grief that infertility can bring. We work towards creating an unbiased and safe space for open communication between you and your partner around how you are feeling, how the infertility is affecting both of you, the stress you are experiencing, and towards building healthy coping mechanisms and support in sailing through this stressful experience.

Maternal Mental Health

The transition to parenthood and the journey through parenthood can be an extremely challenging one. You could be in any one of the following phases:

  • You are trying to conceive, but finding it difficult
  • You want to become a parent, but are not able to stay pregnant
  • You are currently pregnant, but finding it emotionally difficult
  • You are having a difficult pregnancy, and you constantly worry about your child to come
  • You and your partner think differently with respect to your pregnancy
  • You are a new parent and you feel there are some post partum difficulties. Everybody thinks you should be happy, but you just don’t feel ‘right’.
  • You are already a parent, but finding it difficult to deal with your child.

Balancing family, work and parenthood, can in itself be difficult. With any of the above, it can become further stressful. The most important thing to remember is that, you are not alone in your struggle. Regardless of your circumstances, past choices, and present situation, you have the power to rewrite your story, and at IReflect, we are here to support you through that rewriting.
